Hi Don,
I'm not a DBA or a sysadmin (!) but I think you need to look at an
informix utility called dbexport. This creates all the sql statements
necessary to recreate a databases, together with an ascii unload
file containing the data for each table. Its sister command, dbimport,
creates the database from the sql file and then loads it from the
ascii data files.
What you probably need to do is dbexport _each database_(to a
filesystem/disk other than the one in the machine to be upgraded),
install Solaris 2.5.1, install the new version of Informix (in the
order Tools, Engine, Network components) and then dbimport each
database.
