Getting something out of a DBS...

Hi fellow DBAs, I have a nice 1Gb DBS named dbs940. I guess you'll understand which version it comes from. The guy in charge of backup simply "copied" the DB Space. Now, I'd like to recover the data. Before tempting any stupid thing, is there something I can do to open it with another engine (a more recent one)? Thanks jgp
Hi, If you have a dump of a dbs, you can only work with the same engine on the same architecture. The best thong you can do is find the original onconfig file and restore the dumped data to the same locations as on the original. The you could possibly activate the instance. 9.40 is not that old, so there is no need to try this on a 10.0 release. It might go wrong on a 10.0 release, cause it needs to upgrade the structures.
