which is best training

I have been given the go ahead to make a training plan for myself at my job. I am the sole Dba at a place that has a P570 running 5 Informix instances, the biggest one is about a terabyte. My training basically consists of: Informix Adminstration Class, about 8 years ago. Unix Administration class about 6 years ago, 7 years experience as a dba. I am thinking I'd like to take the Internals Class, and the Performance Tuning and the Advanced Performance Tuning class. My question is, for those who may know, which would be best, and win what order. Mainly, is it a lot better to have the internals class before going for the Perf tuning, or vica versa. I am looking for the best bang for the buck, and the best use of my time for my company. Below are the classes: Thanks for your input. Floyd, For what it's worth, I think that I'd do the performance tuning, then I'd wait at least a month (and probably 2) to have time to "digest" that information. I'd then take the advanced performance tuning (though I'm not sure exactly what that is; it wasn't available as a course when I was allowed training), and put that into practice. I'd then take the internals, and AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, take the master series course (if they still offer that). I say that because the master course referenced the internals stuff, and it's unlikely that you'll actually USE the internals stuff on a daily basis. It's good to know, and it can be REALLY useful in some specialized situations, but it's not something that you're going to practice every day, so you'll tend to forget it (the training manuals are pretty good though, so the exposure to it in class will stand you in good stead when you have to look it up later). Good luck! The Performance and Tuning class is excellent and helped me a great deal. I think the three classes you list would be great. Don't have any suggestion on the order other than the obvious take Performance and Tuning before Advanced P&T. From the description, it looks to me like the Advanced course *is* the old Masters series course. Yes it would definitely be a good idea to have the Internals stuff under your belt before taking on the Advanced / Masters series course. Also, with 7 years experience as a DBA, you may be able to skip the initial Perf Tuning course -- take a look at the course syllabus / outline. So, I would suggest: -- Perf Tuning (optional) -- Internals -- Advanced Perf Tuning FWIW, I definitely got the most out of the Masters series / Advanced Perf Tuning course. I still use a lot of that knowledge, and still frequently reference the course notes. HTH, Paul Mosser
