Hello every:
I backup my informix use TSM server. my policy is backup all data (0 level)
every day , and opration by handwork. online logic log backup TSM use this
same policyset.
Becase of Informix online logic log named by id, so TSM don't know how many
version has been backup. that is to say, tsm backup a logic log every 30
min(may be).
I want reservations complete backup (0 level, use onbar -b -L 0) 2 years.
I only want reservations logic log 1 month.
so how to delete those logic log with in 23 months? does IDS has a command to
delete backuped logic log before user specified date.
Hi,
the question is: what you want to do with
those level-0 backups of the past 23 months?
In case you would ever want to restore one
of them, you will also need the logical logs.
At a minimum you will need some logical log(s)
that were backed up around the time when the
level-0 backup was done. So from this point
of view I think it is not so bad to keep those
logical logs.
If you want to be able to restore a level-0 backup
without the need for any logical log (to be restored),
you should do "whole system backups". This is
done by using the "-w" command line parameter, e.g.
"onbar -b -w [-L 0]". Once you are doing only these
whole system backups, the system may even let you
remove old log backups - as they are not strictly
needed anymore.
For actively expiring and removing backup objects,
please check the "onsmsync" utility.
For background on the need of logical log backup
for normal level-0 backups vs. whole system backups
please check the manual and past postings in this
forum - as this topic has been discussed many times
and extensively over the past 10 years or so.
Regards, Martin
