Hello all, I have a simple question. Currently we have Informix (IDS Workgroup ED) version 7.30. We are limited to the size of a varchar, 255 I think. In later versions is this still a limit. Thanks, Rich
IDS 9.2x implements VARCHAR2 which has a limit of 32767 characters the same as CHAR. Art S. Kagel Richard Krenek wrote: > > Hello all, > I have a simple question. Sorry, bad day. That should be LVARCHAR I believe and the max for LVARCHAR is 2K not 32K. ARRGGHH! Art S. Kagel Xavier Trevisani wrote: > > "Art S. ARRGGHH! > It should indeed be LVARCHAR, and the storage limit is indeed 2 KB (for reasons that have never been clear to me). The LVARCHAR data type can actually contain up to 32 KB for transporting data types back and forth between application and server, but the storage for an LVARCHAR as an LVARCHAR is indeed limited to 2 KB. VARCHAR2 is an Orrible type. > Xavier Trevisani wrote: > > "Art S.
