question about enable compression

HI, I could do online repack and online shrink with below script. 1,running a program to do the insert for the user table; 2,execute function task(‘enable compression’,’testab’,'userdb',’informix’); 3,execute function task(‘table repack',’testab’,'userdb',’informix’); 4,execute function task(‘table shrink,’testab’,'userdb',’informix’); my confuse is what the 'enable compression’ doing? after execute it, do all the user tables will be compressed? that isn't my expection. which document has the description of enable compression? thanks for your time?

You shouldn't need "enable compression" to do a shrink or repack. "enable compression" is required to compress a table for example. Note that in order for one to use "enable compression" he must be licensed to do so. but I found if i don't execute 'enable compression', the 'shrink' could interupt the application. after I execute 'enable compression', the shrink become the online operation.

Enable compression is only required in version 11.50 as i= t does a conversion of disk structures to prepare the system for compressio= n. John F.
