Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Chuan Lu asked what the task enable compression does when doing online table repack and shrink. Fernando Nunes said it is not needed for shrink or repack, only for compression, which requires a licence. Chuan said shrink interrupted the application without it. John Miller III said it is only required in 11.50, where it converts disk structures.

HI,
I could do online repack and online shrink with below script.
1,running a program to do the insert for the user table;
2,execute function task(enable compression,testab,'userdb',informix);
3,execute function task(table repack',testab,'userdb',informix);
4,execute function task(table shrink,testab,'userdb',informix);
my confuse is what the 'enable compression doing? after execute it, do all
the user tables will be compressed? that isn't my expection.
which document has the description of enable compression?
thanks for your time?
You shouldn't need "enable compression" to do a shrink or repack.
"enable compression" is required to compress a table for example. Note that
in order for one to use "enable compression" he must be licensed to do so.

My email works... but I don't check it frequently...
--001a113f288c2283f205265756b1
but I found if i don't execute 'enable compression', the 'shrink' could
interupt the application. after I execute 'enable compression', the shrink
become the online operation.
Enable compression is only required in version 11.50 as i= t does a
conversion of disk structures to prepare the system for compressio=
n.
