I believe that TMS image decompression/compression libraries are available as New Era class libraries. If you scratch Plexus image libs enough you will also find TMS here ! >There are other C libraries around, which might not be as elegant as class >libraries, but would certainly allow you to get the job done (Kofax springs >to mind here.) Plus a bunch of others, TMS, Pixel Translations, watch out for royalty costs per seat here. >> Also as the amount of storage required is modest what would be the >> implications of using Raid storage arrays, purely for the blobspaces, rather >> than have the additional costs of going Optical. I work on a site that has purely magnetic 25-20Gb worth on a Plexus database. We avoided a bunch of hassles and performance problems by doing this. Mind you we had a real scare with backup to DAT once !. Another site I have experience with uses about 180GB of SONY WORM but they store a lot of archive info. Not so coincidentally my small software development company has developed a low-cost image viewer that can be driven via DDE and that also has a client/server portion that communicate with an Informix Database without the need for i-net etc. We have it installed as a casual viewer for one of the sites above.
