Upgrade from 7.30.uc7 to 7.31.ud8 - drop distributions

I am planning to upgrade from 7.30.uc7 to 7.31.ud8. Before the upgrade the distributions must be dropped and re-created after the upgrade. This database has several thousand tables and is estimated the drop distributions will take over 24 hours. Has anyone ever deleted the rows from sysdistrib and performed an upgrade? I have tried this with stores7 database on a test server and did not see any problems. Your thoughts and comments and experiences. Roy

I got the OK from someone deep in the optimizer group to copy distributions
from one server to another and that worked out fine. Seems that there's
nothing special about sysdistrib as there is for many of the system catalog
tables. You should be able to just delete the contents to clean up old
distributions before the upgrade.
If you are not using dostats to maintain distributions and do not already have
a script to recreate the current level of stats/distributions after the
upgrade, you can use the -u/-U options to my dbschema replacement utility,
myschema, to output a script to duplicate the current levels of distributions
for every table. If you are using dostats to maintain the stats then, of
course, that can be used instead.
Dostats and myschema are contained in the package utils2_ak in the IIUG
Software Repository.
