Installation question

Hi, Folks, Assume we have a bunch of boxes with exactly identical hardware and software( same Linux OS, same every thing...). Solution 1: Give s fresh installation on each box( run ids_install on each box) Solution2: run ids_install on only ONE box, then Tar the installed $INFORMIXDIR directory and send to each other boxes and untar there. Both solution work? or one preferred to another? Any potential issue for solution 2? Thanks, Frank --001a11c3c8ecf15ec104e760c9c1
Don't risk it... Run an installation and save the answers. Then run a silent installation on the other machines using the saved file. There is also ifxdeploy if you want to include an instance within the deployment package Regards On Fri, Sep 27, 2013 at 6:26 PM, FRANK <yunyaoqu@gmail.com> wrote: > Hi, Folks, > > Assume we have a bunch of boxes with exactly identical hardware and > software( same Linux OS, same every thing...). > > Solution 1: > > Give s fresh installation on each box( run ids_install on each box) > > Solution2: > > run ids_install on only ONE box, then Tar the installed $INFORMIXDIR > directory and send to each other boxes and untar there. > > Both solution work? or one preferred to another? You must be 100% sure that linux libraries (prereqs) are exactly the same, or else you might face issues in the database. The best and paranoid way is always to do a fresh install, or a silent install (using the response file, as Fernando said). Regards. Both will work as long as you do the tar and untar as user 'root' so the privileges on all files are correct when restored. Art Art S.
