Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
A user heard about a new IDS config parameter, IFX_FOLDVIEW (0/1, folds UNION ALL and multi-table join views to improve query performance), at an IDUG/IIUG conference but could find no documentation. The answer: it was brand new and would be documented in the IDS 10.00.xC5 release notes; an IBM blog post was given as a preview. A side discussion covered another xC5 feature, the Virtual Processor Memory Cache (start at the 800KB minimum and monitor with onstat -g vpcache), plus a caution that undocumented features are unsupported.
Auto-generated by DrWatson from the posts below — may be imperfect; read the full thread.
hello all,
i am not finding much on this new configuration parameter -
IFX_FOLDVIEW - maybe i am blind but i am not seeing it...?
thanks for any help!

What is this "Virtual Processor Memory Cache"??
We have gone from machines with 4Gb of memory to machines with 32Gb
memory hence
we have loads of memory to play with - (we have even been offered 64GB
of memory if needed!!).
We could probably dedicate 10Gb of memory to stuff that is not
buffers/sort memory!
Weeeeeeeeeeee!!

David,
Guy stated in his white paper "Undocumented Features
It's not uncommon for new features to appear in the product without
documentation. This can be because the feature has not been fully tested,
there is a regression to work out, R&D would like feedback from users before
fully documenting, or the feature was implemented before the documentation
was complete. If a feature is not documented you use at your own risk. "
A better (and more accurate statement would be) "IBM only supports
documented functionality. If you should use any undocumented functionality
without express requests from tech support to use that functionality, then
you will not be supported."

This feature is fallout from Informix revisting the world of benchmarks, as is the other xC5 feature, Fastpoll.

Start with the minimum, 800 (Kb), monitor it with onstat -g vpcache and slowly increase, you'll probably see a fairly good hit ratio with a small cache.
