INFORMIX SE on LINUX and DATETIME

I am running SE on LINUX and all is well, except the datetime variables are off by 5 hours. The system clock reports correctly, as does date +%Z. I tried setting TZ variable to CST6CDT, but that did not change the result. Any ideas?

If you started sqlexecd at system boot, and it did not have TZ set correctly, and if you used remote access (sesoctcp) to get at the SE engine, then I could believe that the SE spawned by sqlexecd had no TZ set, so it would work on GMT (UTC) which might just be 5 hours off your CDT time zone.
