Dropping a chunk
Posted in 2014
A user couldn't drop a chunk he had just added to dbspace dbsdata01: running "onspaces -d dbsdata01 -p /opt/informix/data/ldatadbs02" produced no error, just the onspaces usage/syntax output. Responders asked whether the chunk was empty (oncheck -ce), what onstat -d showed, and suggested adding the offset. Neil Truby pointed out that the posted command omitted the mandatory -o offset. Retrying with "-o 0" worked, and the chunk was dropped successfully.

Hi,
Recently I added the ldatadbs02 chunk to the dbsdata01 dbspace, but now
I like to drop the chunk in this way:
onspaces -d dbsdata01 -p /opt/informix/data/ldatadbs02
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.

Jorge,
Is the chunk empty? What is the error you are getting. Did you create it
with an offset?Try onspaces -d dbsdata01 -p
/opt/informix/data/ldatadbs02 -o 0
Run oncheck -ce to find out the contents of the chunk.

Yes it's empty. Yes, I created with an 0 offset because it is on another
device.

I don't getting any error, I get the same output that onspaces -- gives. It's
like a syntax error.

Did you try to drop with the offset 0
onspaces -d dbsdata01 -p > /opt/informix/data/ldatadbs02 -o 0
How have you created the chunk? Can you create a new chunk and drop it?

Yes I try with offset 0.
Yes I created the chunk. I created the chunk using onmoniror-add a chunk.
I can create a new chunk, but I can't drop it.

Although you later say that you specified the offset, you *don't* in this
example.
I try again with offset 0 and it works.
Thank you very much.
