migrate lv

hello we are looking at moving to new disk storage and the sysadmins have suggested that they are able to just migrate an lv over that contains the rootdbs and Informix would not know the difference but have never tried that before. We usually do just a straight archive/restore. They are setting up a test server for trying it out but thought I'd ask if anyone has done it that way before Thanks
Yes it will work fine as long as you are using symbolic links for the chunk paths it will be trivial. It is just like 'restoring' an external archive which is even officially supported. Of course the engine needs to be offline when they perform the copy. Once it is complete, delete the links and relink them to the new LVs and start up the instance. Poof! Art Art S. You usually can establish mirrors, break mirrors etc without the upper layers (OS, Database etc.) notice anything. I had customers doing similar things "online" for various motives. What you need to understand is that if it's transparent to Informix you can't expect IBM to "support it". If properly done, it will work and the database will never notice. If your sysadmins make some mistake you can end up with a corrupted database. It's a matter of trust vs the need to keep the system available. Regards.
