Push technology and Informix
Posted in 1998
Hi! I'm trying to do some research on the use of available push technology for enabling the dissemination of information stored in Informix OnLine 7.23.FCx on Digital Unix 4.0D, and MS-Access 97, to a configurable group of receipients. The following characteristics/goals of the system apply: - End user must be able to easily configure what set of information (such as reports, or raw data from an adhoc query) they would like forwarded to their desktops; - System administrative controls, such as configuration of user rights, at the push technology layer; - Adequate security controls; - Audit trails and some means for easily determining who got what info when; either with an in-built interface or thru some API to third party reporting software; - Easy-to-use-and-configure management interface; - Ability to maintain journal of what data was pushed to desktop at the desktop itself, so that the user may search for previous reports sent (also tool for text-based searching of data files pushed to desktop); - Ability to send plug-ins/viewers with the data so that full- fledged applications need not be installed on desktops. If possible, could anybody who has done any research on this, or who has something already implemented, please contact me via email so that we could discuss the pros and cons, what I'd need to get in order to implement a reliable, working solution, and if possible an estimate of costs? Thank you for your time.
