More about errors -951 / -952
Posted in 2016
User asked if errors -951/-952 (authentication failures from ODBC clients) can be suppressed from Informix 11.70 logs on HP-UX. Multiple respondents confirmed there is no direct way to exclude these messages. Suggestions included using named pipes for MSGLOG, enabling traces with onmode -I to debug the application, or using alarmprogram/grep to filter logs. No resolution to suppress the errors was provided.

Hi, HP-UX 11.31 Informix 11.70 FC8W1 I have a legacy windows application (it is not possible to modify code). This app uses ODBC and when the PC user is trying to connect to the unix server with a incorrect combination of user / password, then one of following lines are written to the log file <instance>.log: listener-thread: err = -952: oserr = 0: errstr = <user@domain>: User <user@domain>'s password is not correct for the database server. listener-thread: err = -951: oserr = 0: errstr = <user@domain>: Incorrect password or user <user@domain> is not known on the database server. These errors are repeated several times a day and are not relevant, but they're annoying. My question is: Is there any way of do an "acknowledgement of these errors" and no longer show up ? Is there a way of avoid these messages in the log ? Exclude these error codes ? Thanks in advance.
Not that I am aware of but you might be able to make the MSGLOG a named pipe and do something clever -----Original Message----- From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of ROGER VILCA Sent: Monday, July 25, 2016 4:30 PM To: ids@iiug.org Subject: More about errors -951 / -952 [37481] Hi, HP-UX 11.31 Informix 11.70 FC8W1 I have a legacy windows application (it is not possible to modify code). No, these kind of errors are directly related to database securiry.
You can turn on a trace through onmode -I [errnum] to help you to find where
the application is going wrong, and correct it.
Hope it helps.
Best regards.

Hi,
HP-UX 11.31
Informix 11.70 FC8W1
I have a legacy windows application (it is not possible to modify code).
This
app uses ODBC and when the PC user is trying to connect to the unix server
with a incorrect combination of user / password, then one of following lines
are written to the log file <instance>.log:
listener-thread: err = -952: oserr = 0: errstr = <user@domain>: User
<user@domain>'s password is not correct for the database server.
listener-thread: err = -951: oserr = 0: errstr = <user@domain>: Incorrect
password or user <user@domain> is not known on the database server.
These errors are repeated several times a day and are not relevant, but
they're annoying.
My question is:
Is there any way of do an "acknowledgement of these errors" and no longer
show
up ?
Is there a way of avoid these messages in the log ? Exclude these error
codes
?
Thanks in advance.

No... But your concern with them suggest either/both: 1- They are very frequent 2- You spend too much time looking at online.log For 2) you should setup the alarmprogram to process the relevant events and send you emaisl or SMS or some other alert tool... and you can "grep" them out of course... You should want to see and review these, in case of access violations. Oth= erwise ignore them, since they are in the online.log, which hopefully you a= re not reviewing much anyway. If you are, then just look in there for what is relevant to you and ignore = the rest. You need to find the issue and resolve it, if necessary. If it's password,= then fix it. If it's trust, then fix that. Get the ID removed from the remote server that it's coming from, etc. Thanks, ***************************************************************************= *************** Ernie Knox Sr. Technologist, Member Technology - Database Management Sears Holdings Management Corp 3333 Beverly Rd.
