It maybe on the surface, however NT offers absolutely no flexibility for managing mass users, printers, etc. It has a GUI, and thats about it. It's made for low-end office automation. > > 2. It must be easier to replace a NT admin than a UNIX admin. Well, now you brought it up. Again, on the surface you maybe right but consider this: The gained productivity through a reliable and high performing system. Nothing like booting three times a day, right?? I have yet to see a NT server handle work load and a diversity of applications. > > 3. Typically on sites I've worked on the support costs for UNIX boxes have > been considerable. That is true, and that's why we have guys like popping up, claiming to save the world with NT. In fact, the only reason why NT is so popular is that management THINKS it is the way to go! There is no technical or true business reasons for choosing NT, except perhaps relying on a expensive UNIX vendor, instead of finding a more cost effective UNIX vendor. > > 4. Hardware is much more expensive for UNIX NOT TRUE my manipulative friend. Ever heard of free BSD, solaris for x86, Linux, etc. > > > All in all I'd take UNIX any day, however, there are some plus points to NT. Yes there are plus points but not the ones you mention. Personally, NT may be adequate for office automation and low end database applications with few users or performance indifference. > > > Feel free to disagree, I may be talking out my hat - I often do So do I. /Tom > > > Goldy Magaly Pastor Murillo wrote in message > <74kh6n$9b7$1@news.xmission.com>... > > > >Hi everybody > > > >Why to choose UNIX and not NT using databases??? > > > > > >********************************************* > >Goldy Pastor Murillo > >Consultora > > > >Proyecto ILACO > >e-mail: gpastor@ilaco.gov.bo > > goldypm@yahoo.com > >www : www.ilaco.gov.bo > >Telf : 591-2-372703 > >La Paz - Bolivia > >*********************************************
