If it's ISQL rather than 4GL, you have a lot of work to do as there (AFAIK) isn't any simple automated way to go across. If it's 4GL, then yes, there hasn't been all that many changes. Enough to cause problems depending on the source code, however. As for converting 4GL to C, good luck. I've never done it and don't want to think about it. Another alternative is to get someone with the latest release of Informix's tools to run the code through and see what happens. I don't understand how this is going to address your Y2K problems, however. The free linux licences are for developers to play with, not for deployment. So you or your client will have to spend some money for a new version of the engine. 4GL runtime licences aren't *that* dear, compared with the effort entailed in going from 4GL to esql/c. I do, however, have copies of nearly every Informix release from 1988 to now, for SE and R4GL. Not interested in selling, though. I expect there'll be a lot of use for them in 1999 :-) Peter Wiley
