I meant 4 processes that I can't see out of "9 maximum concurrent" D. In article <3a3a02c5.7927459@News.CIS.DFN.DE>, obnoxio@hotmail.com (Obnoxio The Clown) wrote: > Which 4 processes? Might have been part of your fast recovery or something.

Yes, but how much were they? what parameters should I look at to find
out, how many were those missing process? Reminder: I need to find
number of maximum concurrent users (lower row of onstat -u output shows
users AND system processes)

OK, the 4 missing sessions were part of the 9 maximum that have been on the
engine since startup and the 4 are no longer there. Likely some of them,
as Obnoxio points out, were startup recovery threads. The maximum
concurrent is what is CURRENTLY allocated, this value is DYNAMIC and if you
ever exceed the 128 initial concurrent session blocks allocated the engine
will up that to 256 then 384, etc. as needed. Informix really has no
maximum number of concurrent sessions. HOWEVER, having said that, the
number of sessions that a particular connection name can handle is defined
in your ONCONFIG file by the NETTYPE parameters and only the shared memory
connection count is fixed, the TCP and other networked connection types are
also dynamic. So if you have:
DBSERVERNAME fred
DBSERVERALIAS fred_ethr,fred_fddi,fred_e100
NUMCPUVPS 4
NETTYPE icpshm,4,50,CPU
NETTYPE tlitcp,2,50,NET
where your sqlhosts says:
fred onipcshm freddy sqldummy
fred_fddi ontlitcp freddy_fddi sqlconn1
fred_ethr ontlitcp freddy_ethr sqlconn2
fred_e100 ontlitcp freddy_e100 sqlconn3
Then you have configured for a fixed maximum of 200 shared memory user
sessions, and at least 100 sessions each on your ethrnet-10, ethernet-100,
and fddi interfaces. However, that 100 per connection address is not fixed
and you could have 400 active concurrent connections via any of these three
network interfaces.
