I don't think there is gonna be any problem at all. But I wonder what will be the permission of the shell script, is it gonna be user Informix, or root, or ..??? While we're on this subject, what about making use of the trigger mechanism to send 'messages' to the client?? One of the application is constantly polling the database server to check a particular field, it is as frequent as once per second. That's why someone suggested that it might be more efficient if we use the trigger mechanism to notify the client application of a change instead of the constant polling that is happening now. Personally, I don't think it can be done EASILY. I don't see how the trigger mechanism can talk to the front-end application. But of course, I might be wrong, any comments on this?? If it must be done, I believe we have to go into socket programming or RPC calls. Maybe someone can suggest something more elegant. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Calvin Ng email: <calvinng@technet.sg> A new Netizen =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
