Distributed Databases Help ?
Posted in 1995
I have posed this question to the sole Informix Distributor in the UK
but they don't seem to be able to help me.
We are looking to setup a system with two SCO UNIX servers (v3.2.4)
with TCP/IP and NFS support. Also running Informix 4GL with SE.
We will have one database on each server and require to extract data
from tables in database 1 and insert the results into database 2.
For example - in an ideal world we would like the following:
declare tmp_curs cursor for
select * from database1.table1
where <where_clause>
foreach tmp_curs into tmp_record.*
insert tmp_record.* into database2.table2
end foreach
close tmp_curs
The problem with this type of approach is that we have to have both databases
open at the same time - something Informix-SE won't let us.
From the information we have been given it would seem that Informix-NET
will not help us in this situation as again we cannot open more than
one database at the same time.
We have thought about using NFS and creating table2 in "/x/...."
where /x is the NFS alias for server2. This will allow us to read and write
information to and from the same database. Does anyone have any
experience of this ?
Does anyone have any better suggestions or solutions ?
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
