This looks like you're getting the wrong shell outta make(1); try
csh $INFORMIXDIR/bin/c4gl # missing quote error
sh $INFORMIXDIR/bin/c4gl # missing file error (that's okay !)
The line
SHELL=/bin/sh
added to the makefile (near the top !) might cure that problem.

Every time I mkmessage, with perfectly good files and a perfectly
acceptable result, I get non-zero exit status (this isn't a db4glgen
complaint, it's an Informix complaint, you understand). make(1) objects
to this.
A leading hyphen in the line (as in "- mkmessage ...") tells make
to ignore the exit status, but can someone tell me why I get that ?
(S'only a trivia question, of course). Using -V gives me:
Usage: mkmessage input_file output_file
but it shipped with INFORMIX-SQL Version 2.10.03B.
uname -a: OSx64 moses 5.0d-900928 0909i Pyramid-9815
Re db4glgen, I'm sure it's not perfect but it seems extremely
useful. Mainly learning from the way someone else gets the job
done (often better 8^).
Outstanding value, for something shoved thru' your mailbox
free. Thanks, DAS. Do you mind if we use bits of the code
in normal applications, BTW, with a name/address check ?
