Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
A poster worried that his message (quoting a controversial rant) never appeared, suspecting censorship at the Usenet/email gateway; others reported seeing some but not all of the thread and suggested their news hosts were to blame. The list administrator, Walt Hultgren, explained the cause: informix-list's Majordomo gateway scans headers/bodies with Perl regexes to catch spam and viruses, and matching messages are held for admin approval. Those admin bounces land in the same overflowing file as delivery-failure bounces, so release can be delayed, making list/gateway/Usenet distribution look out of sync. He confirmed no filtering on content. A side discussion followed about the rant's language, with no further issue.

Hello all,
I noticed that my post quoting Tim's post in full *also* didn't make it out.
Is there some censorship going on at the email gateway? I'd be very
aggrieved to find out there was. :-(

I could *read* everything Tim said (and still can) here on
www.remarq.com so I don't think it's coming from here.

I have gotten a few pieces of this thread, and I did not receive Tim's original
rant. Very interesting.

It may be down to your news group host ...
I've noticed very different service at home to in the office for this group.

The informix-list gateway makes use of a Majordomo feature that allows
the headers and/or message bodies to be scanned using Perl regular
expressions. informix-list has a few such RE's in place, but strictly
for the purposes of trapping spam and a handful of the more prevalent
viruses.
When Majordomo encounters a target expression, it bounces the incoming
message to the list admin for approval. That task has fallen back to me
at the moment, somewhat like a bit of gum stuck to the bottom of your
shoe that you can't quite get rid of. :-)
Given the current Majordomo setup, these administrative bounces go to
the same address as the bounces generated by e-mail transport problems.
There are so many of the latter type on informix-list, the only feasible
way to handle them is to route them to a separate holding file for later
inspection. Unfortunately, the admin bounces go there as well.
Thus, it may be some time after a list message is held by Majordomo
before I can inspect an admin bounce and release it for list posting.
This only make more asynchronous the distribution scheme that now
involves the list, the gateway and Usenet. I have taken steps to try to
make this all work more closely to "real time," but it will never be
there completely.
So, to summarize: Some informix-list messages get held for review.
That review doesn't happen right away. I don't censor for content.
The process is sincere, but not perfect. :-)
Walt.

In my response to Tim's original posting concerning Menlo
I should have been more specific. I asked for an apology
to this group for the beligerant and foul language not his
opinions or ideas. If this was considered 'censorship'
I apologize. At the same time I turn off the TV when the
shows get too 'blue' for my tastes. I would hate to see this
group sink to that level. Once again this is solely MY OPINION.
You are all obviously allowed to make up your own minds...
