If you know any language you can pick it up in a few hours. Works with just about every web server out there (but of course, best with apache).

It looks like my major alternatives to Perl are either PHP or some form of Java. Or Tcl, which was recommended if I use the only other open-source Web server that I know of that uses persistent database connections, AOLServer. (The only one other than Apache, that is.)
