Actually, I've seen this happen if you have transaction logging on a
database. For reasons I'm not going into, the longer a transaction gets,
the slower it gets. HPL will definitely be faster, but if you don't have
it,
dbload -n 10000 ...rest of stuff...
will definitely help.
