As far as I know Marcus the only things online are my tuning article in Informix TechNotes Volume 8 Issue 3, and William D. Burton's WEB page: http://home.earthlink.net/~mildness/bamph/informix.htm which references my article vis-a-vis the tuning course and other sources and William's own experiences. Good books are: Informix DBA Survival Guide, Joe Lumbley, 2nd Edition 1999. Any books on the subject by Carlton Doe, Elizabeth Suto & Art Taylor, the upcoming Informix Handbook edited by Ron Flanagan due out near the end of the year. Art S. Kagel
Speaking of Mr. Burton, he has on his excellent web page (and I quote) "A series of tests I performed at Informixs benchmark labs in Menlo Park demonstrated configuring twice as many CPUVPS as hardware CPUs was optimal for HP/UX." What's your opinion on this, Art? Do you concur? Allen "Art S. Do you concur? I have not tested on HP myself, however, there is STRONG annecdotal evidence that on systems with CPUs faster than about 400 MHZ, depending on the Super/Ultra/Mega/Hyper-Scalar nature of the CPU itself, one can continue to gain significant performance improvement from up to 2 CPU VPs per physical CPU, yes. There are similar reports of such performance gains from other HP users and from Ultra_SPARK users. None that I have seen yet from 4 and 8 + CPU users of Intel Pentium II/III and Xeon users, including me. We are actually getting "enough" horsepower from using 20 CPU VPs on 24 - 450 MHZ PentiumPros on our DGUX boxes so I have not been trying for maximum throughput. Art S. Kagel > Allen > > "Art S.
