When using "ipcs", it is easier and quicker to see each database if each database is started by a different owner... Also it makes it easier to remove (kill) a single database shared memory. That way you can "ipcs |grep <database owner name>" Start database 1 as db1 Start database 1 as db2 Start database 1 as db3 That way you can "ipcs |grep db2" And run a script if needed to kill only those for db2 Better than bringing down all 3 datbases or re-booting the box. >From: tslusser@bigfoot.com >Reply-To: tslusser@bigfoot.com >To: informix-list@iiug.org >Subject: Re: Multiple Residency & Shared Memory >Date: Tue, 30 May 2000 20:12:48 GMT > >Thanks! The engine should ALWAYS be started either by user informix or root and it
MUST be started by root or a member of group 'informix' which should have
ONLY ONE member, informix.

I record the shared memory key of each server on the last line of that
instance's ONCONFIG file so I have it at hand. I think that it is no harder
to do:
ipcs | fgrep 565e

Note that ALMOST ALWAYS onmode -ky will kill the shared memory segments for
the current INFORMIXSERVER even if the instance has crashed and is offline.
That's easiest of all.

Check the tread above about calculating an instances shared memory key base
value and you will never have to reboot for this again.
