Hi Platform: IDS 9.21 UC5 - Solaris 8 Does anybody know why when a level 0 backup fails, archecker report that it's OK? Tonight my level 0 backup failed: Please mount tape 1 on gestion:/dev/rmt/2u and press Return to continue ... 10 percent done. 20 percent done. 30 percent done. 40 percent done. 50 percent done. Remote tape report: dd: unexpected short write, wrote 0 bytes, expected 65536 0+13366344 records in 758581+0 records out Archive failed - function write to tape failed code -1 errno 32 Program over. But my "archecker -tdsv" say that is all ok. Informix Dynamic Server 2000 Version 9.21.UC5 Program Name: archecker Version: 4.7 Released: 03/24/01 22:03 Compiled: 03/24/01 22:07 on SunOS 5.6 Generic_105181-23 AC_STORAGE /informix/archecker AC_MSGPATH /var/tmp/ac_msg.log AC_VERBOSE on AC_TAPEDEV /dev/rmt/2u AC_TAPEBLOCK 64 Please put in tape number 1. Type 1 <return> or 0 to end: ........................................ 47 lines more ................Please put in tape number 2. Type 2 <return> or 0 to end: Scan PASSED. Control page checks PASSED Reserve page validation PASSED. Table checks PASSED.ud_free BLOBChunk checks PASSED. Tables/Fragments validated: 683 I dont know what kind of validations archecker utility is doing. Does it check that every database page is in the archive? Is there somewhere documentation about this? Thanks in advance Guillermo Gómez Valcárcel GRAFIA S.A.
It seems that archecker does work with files with more than 2 GB in the
filesystem, ontape does not support sizes above 2 GB in your very old version.
Try to use TAPEDEV=<hostname>:/dev/rmt/2u so that informix uses rsh+dd to read
from the Backupmedia.

No, the problem is with the tape capacity not the 2GB limit.
I had made hundred of backups until now without problems.
I have TAPEDEV=gestion:/dev/rmt/2u. My hostname is "gestion".
But my question is:
Why if my level 0 archive fail my archecker validation not fail too?
Thanks.
