Hi,
Personally, if I started with using German language databases now, I would
use GLS and not NLS because it seems to be more flexible and future
oriented.
In any case, you should read the "Guide to GLS functionality" (and maaybe
the "Migration Guide") which describes all the variables you need (although
you still might fall into a pit). Basically, the most important variables
you need are DB_LOCALE and CLIENT_LOCALE. DB_LOCALE (e.g.
DB_LOCALE=de_de.8859-1) must be set *before* the creation of the database.CLIENT_LOCALE (and sometimes DB_LOCALE) must be set before the execution of
a client (dbaccess, 4GL, PC-clients etc.) on the client computer.
If you want to migrate an existing database to GLS you must do the
fillowing:
* dbexport
* drop database
* set variables for GLS
* create database
* dbimport
Pay attention "decimal" columns when using dbimport/dbexport. The default
for the decimal delimiter depends on the language (point if nor language
specified or English, comma for German). So you should better set DBMONEY
to bypass the mysterious multiplication by 100 (I have already experienced
it).
Good luck
