This is a REALLY OLD bug (I sure hope you're on a REALLY OLD version of OnLine, because the bug is supposed to be fixed in 5.01). Some things that are written to the logical logs are not surrounded by BEGIN/COMMIT. There were a couple of versions out there (5.00.Uxx, where xx != C1) in which fast recovery would fail if it found one of these statements without the BEGIN/COMMIT. Pretty silly, really; unfortunately there was no way out of it except to get a dialup from Informix Support.
