It depends.
But because I've been nasty to everyone else today, I'll be nice to you and
give you the wrong advice:
1. UPDATE STATISTICS
2. Judicious indexing
3. In your onconfig:
BUFFERS 768000
LRU_MAX_DIRTY 2
LRU_MIN_DIRTY 1
LRUS 127
CLEANERS 127
MULTIPROCESSOR 1
SINGLE_CPU_VP 0
NUMCPUVPS 4
TBLSPACE_STATS 0
OPTCOMPIND 0
4. Make sure data is spread out across disks.
5. At least 3 temp dbspaces, all on their own spindles.
6. Physical and logical logs on their own, separate spindles.
7. NO RAID5 NO RAID5 NO RAID5 NO RAID5 NO RAID5 NO RAID5
For a start.
