You may not be happy about it but I'm afraid thats the way it is. The problem arises from the fact that you aren't dealing with an active connection. The sqlturbo sits there waiting until it receives a message then it responds. It will quite happily sit there forever if you want as it has no capability to contact the front end and ask whether it is still there. To do what you suggest requires some kind of regular messaging that a front end process is still there + the front end must be written to be capable of being interrupted so it can respond + the front end must be willing to be interrupted, something not all environments would like. Also messaging to 10-20 front ends might not cause a problem but messaging several hundred or thousand front ends checking to see if they are still up is pretty wastefull of bandwidth. This kind of postive control is sometimes found in secure environments but not generally in business systems. You can implement it yourself through secondary processes but I've never heard of anyone outside of very specialised applications developers who thought the cost was worth the effort.
