I have always ignored these posts and now I have to post one my self. Oh! The ignonomy of it all! ;-) I need for our applications to print shipping labels, possibly in a 4GL report (though I really don't see how this can be done.) The model of label printer is "Prodigy-Plus" by a company called Fargo-Datamax. I have seen some samples of labels desired by different clients in the same industry. Labels are printed with shaded zones, with text in assorted sizes and fonts, including a bar-code font, all mixed on one label. Jake: I've created reports that could print barcodes, different fonts, lines, boxes and grey shaded bars with Informix. I've also created reports that can print "pre-printed" style forms and fill-in the forms with Informix data. I created standard functions that could generated the necessary printer control codes, so some basic understanding of the printer language would be necessary. I did these for HP LaserJet and compatible printers (which makes up the bulk of the market). If you want to discuss this further, let me know. This may even be something that is easier discussed over the phone. Tim
