John, I have no answer for you, but want to hear your responses. I operate on HP 9000 series 800 servers. I have a duplex system, blah, blah, etc, and have two tape drives in this duplex system. I used dd to copy one dat tape to another, messages were okay, it worked, etc. BUT, the new tapes didnt work. SO, unless you get some different responses, I would not trust 'dd' unless you can test it first. This of course means an all-nighter for you. I'm familiar.
