IDS 11.? error 244

We have a web application using the PDO library (php). In one page we are doing a simple update where we update two fields in a table where a third field is a particular value. -ie- update my_table set field1='123', field2 = 'test' where field3 = '9928'; Normally this works with no problems, but recently we have been getting error -244 when we try this. As normal It "Always" happens to our production people, and "Seldom" happens to me which makes it VERY difficult to figure out. The way I read the finderr 244 output hints at a hardware problem. Anyone else seen this or have any hints here? Charlie
Charlie: I would make sure that you have updated statistics on the table, especially on field3. It looks like you update might not be using and index and doing a sequential scan and encountering a lock. If you do not have an index which has a leading column of field3, then this is your problem. The error is likely just a lockout error. The ISAM error code would explain why the row could not be accessed. You probably just need to set the LOCK MODE TO WAIT <nseconds> in each connection so that transient locks do not prevent legitimate transactions from completing. Art Art S.
