Transaction questions

Is a transaction implicitly begin in Informix or does the programmer have to explicitly begin a transaction ? Are there nested transaction in Informix. For eg Sybase had: begin tran begin tran commit tran commit tran

Jack, Informix does not support nested transactions. With Informix, if the database is logged, then you will use implicit command scope transactions. If the database is defined as mode ANSI, then there will be an implicit transaction started with the first altering DML statement. With non-ANSI mode databases, you must issue an explicit begin work statement to initiate a transaction beyond the command scope.
