Well known stupid problem I fear...
You have to set db_locale to your locale
(I assume something like FR_fr.1252 for you)
BEFORE creating the database.
In your situtaion you have to create the
database again :< (you can also use dbexport
and dbimport afterwards).
ps: Its a pity that Informix dont put a
visible warning (on the package or something)
for users outside the us. I have a customer who has
to do the recreation for 7 productive
servers (CDR between all of them which makes
it worse) and MANY gigabytes of data.
pps: If you are still using isql dont create
the database in it. It will NOT use the
db_locale setting. Use dbaccess instead.

Dirk

Yes, unfortunately, this is a well-known problem, but your answer is not
the well-known answer.

Well, if you *want* to change your db locale, you can export, set it, and
import to re-create your database under the French locale. This will
then allow you to do French-language collation, meaning that accented
letters such as "è" are sorted among the non-accented characters, e.g.
"mer", "mère", "mesure".
If you don't mind leaving your database under English locale (as it was
under 5.0), then you just need a newer version of the GLS character set
for en-us8859 (or whatever it is). You can get this from Tech Support.
Earlier versions disallowed characters > ascii 127.
