There is a paper on in TechInfo senter on the Informix web site about the development and support level of their different products. As far as I remember this PC version of SE is on the second or third level. I don't think Informix ever have seen this as an important product. It seems they are more than willing to abandon this field to the PC databases like Access and others. This is sad as there are many types of applications that could benefit from a local DB, sometimes as the only one, sometimes as an add on to a server version. We are using Access, not SE for this, and can easily connect to an OnLine or server based SE database from that. Writing programs in Visual Basic (or Delphi) we also gain the benefit of zero runtime price and still good performance for some types of applications. A problem is of course if you develop in NewEra and use a local copy of SE. Access isn't an option for this, and it would have been more than interesting to be able to set up connections at the database level and generally have the functionallity we see in the server based versions. A new, and potentially very interesting option, is the new OnLine workgroup server for Windows NT with the price Netscape is charging for this. With memory prices dropping fast and powefull PC's becoming cheap this may be something to look into.
