673 - Another routine (upper) with same signature
Migrating dbexported databases from IDS 7.31 on Solaris to IDS 11.50 on Linux, dbimport failed with error 673 "Another routine (upper/lower) with same signature already exists in database". The cause: UPPER() and LOWER() were user-written procedures under 7.31 but are built-in, overloadable functions in 11.x, so the CREATE statements clash with an existing signature. Fix: edit the exported .sql schema file to remove those CREATE PROCEDURE/FUNCTION statements (the built-ins serve applications automatically). Art Kagel also advised running the schema file into a dummy database first to catch other clashes, e.g. explicitly named NOT NULL constraints, since import stops at the first error.

So, when the application calls for upper or lower, then it is automatic for
them, since I don't need to create it. Just to verify what you said.

UPPER() is a built-in function and in all versions since 9.10 it is subject
to function overloading and so function signature matching and so there are
multiple versions of UPPER() with different signatures while under 7.31
there was only one UPPER() which took a CHAR argument and returned a CHAR.
One of your functions has the same signature (ie same inputs and outputs) as
one version of the UPPER() function.

built-in to 11.50. I fear that these will show up one at a time since the
import seems to stop on the first error.

To save time, before you start the import again, create a dummy database and
just run the schema file to make sure there aren't any other surprises like
NOT NULL constraints with explicit names that clash with the generated names
of other NOT NULL constraints. Once you get everything clean in the schema
you can drop the dummy database.
