Re: Informix SE over NFS
Posted in 1997
Whenever you want to create a database the Informix SE engine will check the "type" of the unix file system that it is attempting to write. If this file system is an NFS file system the SE engine on the NFS client machine will connect to "sqlexecd" daemon that runs on the NFS server. This "sqlexecd" in turn will run a "sqlexec" process on the NFS server and it is this newly spawned "sqlexec" engine on the NFS server that does the write operation. . So your SE engine has to be INET enabled and you have to run "sqlexecd" runnig on the NFS server. Writing to NFS mounted file system from the client side is not a safe operation so the engine on the NFS client avoids doing it. All of this is documented in the smalll booklet for inet/istar setup. In the case that the file system is a "ufs" (regular unix file system) the SE engine will write directly to the file.
