Urgent: Informix upgrade from 7.24 UC4 to 7.30 UC8
Posted in 2000
Hi,
We are planning upgrade our Informix from 7.24 UC4 to 7.30 UC8.
I had some queries as below :
We have already purchased 7.30 UC8 long back. Should we install that version
or should we go for more latest version of 7.3x?
When contacted tech support regarding the change in the kernel parameter
values they say the kernel parameter values should be equal to the values
given in the release notes. If the kernel parameter existing value is
greater than the value specified in release notes it can be left unchanged.
What is your opinion?
Below I have just listed the steps to do the upgrade process, let me know if
they are ok, or if I need to change any of the sequence, or if I need to add
any other step :
- Imp files backup : hosts, services, onconfig, sqlhost, .profile,
rhosts, message log, osahosts, ,tctermcap, termcap, set, env, cron
- File system backup
- 0 level archive
- Backup log files
- Check Extents, Reserved pages, DB catalog using oncheck
- Stop the cron jobs
- Bring Informix offline
- Apply OS latest patches if required
- Modify kernel parameters as per release notes
- Relink kernel
- Install Informix 7.3 in new directory
- Copy sqlhost,onconfig, alarmprogram
- Set environment variables
- Change msgpath
- Bring Informix online
- Verify the integrity of the data, indexes using oncheck.
- Test applications programs (C,Cobol,Power Builder, Shell Scripts,
Cron Jobs)
- Make an initial, complete backup of the database server.
- Run UPDATE STATISTICS medium for all databases.
- Verify the access path of your SQL statements.
Also thanks for your replies for my queries on :
- Warning in message log after tuning CLEANERS
- Errors in log file while creating shared memory
- Detecting system paging or swapping
- Killing a session using onmode -z
Thanks in advance for all your replies.
Vinod Bhansali.
