ESQL/C, SE and DBD-Informix. Not friends.
Posted in 2000
Hi all, I'm dropping a note here at the recommendation of Jonathan Leffler (author of Perl DBD-Informix) since I seem to be having a fairly icky time with installing the DBD (which has now become desperately critical for a project) The setup is: AIX 4.3.2, Informix SE 5.10 (I know, I know -- nothing I can do about it unfortunately), DBD-Informix 0.95. Unfortunately, I seem to have had endless trouble with getting a working ESQL/C setup which can actually allow programs to make database connections. Initially, I installed the recent ClientSDK, which includes a ESQL/C 9.x. This managed to get as far as compiling the programs, checking the host in sqlhosts (if I broke sqlhosts, the programs died immediately on execution), trying to connect to a database and... failing. They timed out with error message -27001. I was advised by a couple of people that trying to use a 9.x ESQL/C with a 5.x DBMS (SE to boot) was probably a bit ambitious. So I've now installed ESQL/C 7.24 uc8. Great. At least I didn't seem to break the DBMS installation (many thanks to Craig for the advice on this) BUT, attempts to compile esqltest.ec (which comes with the DBD module) now induce the following: First, the good stuff, from running perl Makefile.PL: Configuring DBD::Informix version 0.95... You are using DBI version 1.13 and Perl version 5.00503 Remember to actually read the README file! Perl: perl5.00503 aix dl_aix.xs System: aix esther 3 4 00920517a000 Compiler: cc -O -D_ALL_SOURCE -D_ANSI_C_SOURCE -D_POSIX_SOURCE -qmaxmem=8192 -I/usr/local/include Loader: ld Using INFORMIX-ESQL Version 7.24.UC8 from /u1/informix Assert macro will be disabled! Testing whether your Informix test environment will work... Next, the bad stuff, once it actually starts trying to run ESQL/C on programs... "esqltest.ec", line 90.18: 1506-277 (S) Syntax error: possible missing ';' or ','? "esqltest.ec", line 90.13: 1506-045 (S) Undeclared identifier _SQ0. "esqltest.ec", line 100.18: 1506-277 (S) Syntax error: possible missing ';' or ','? Failed to compile esqltest.ec to esqltest.o This is patently bizarre, since the same file was happily processed by ESQL 9.x, and looks fine to me where the errors are claimed to exist. SO... If the machine actually belonged to me, and I'd been alone in the office, I would have had some exceptionally interesting and _Emphatic_ things to say to it, and was sorely tempted to rearrange it physically... Any ideas guys? This is starting to bother me in a big way. (Bothering my bank manager too, since I get paid on completion of the project) Ciao, Hal
