Listing Database Names
Posted in 1992
I have an application where there are several databases (local and remote). Not infrequently, a manager or supervisor needs to access one of these databases to examine cases which have been entered. Each of these databases is in exactly the same image except that the data is for different regions. The supervisor would like to be able to select the database when logging into the application so they can point to the desired region's data. Programmatically, it is not a difficult thing to launch the application with the correct database. LET db_name = "default" IF num_args() > 0 THEN # assume run as xxx.4ge db_name LET db_name = arg_val(1) END IF DATABASE db_name What I would like to do, is have a hidden key which the supervisor can press and (if the user login configuration file allows it), they will see a window with an array listing all the available databases. They can pick one from the array and the application program is launched with the desired database name as the first parameter. What I would like to do now is somehow get the same list of databases that are displayed by isql when you first enter it. Is this available to us at an application level but just not discussed in the documentation? Or is just not available at all? This is running on On-Line 4.0. -- Jim Nielsen Motorola Inc., Commercial Systems Division jmn@pdx.csd.mot.com Voice: (503) 643-6247
