Sort memory

I have a query which I need to run in an OLTP environment, but which seems to tear up the disk where my temporary space is located. Is it possible to assign additional memory to this query for sorting so that it doesn't need the disk space? I've played around with the PDQPRIORITY and the DS_TOTAL_MEMORY and DS_MAX_QUERIES a bit, but I'm not looking for parallelism - just to make use of all the memory in the box. Cheers

No IDS sorts used a fixed in-memory image size. You can, however, move the sort-work files out of the temp dbspaces and into filesystem space using the PSORT_DBTEMP environment variables. Just set that to a list of filesystems (IOW one directory on each of several filesystems) and that space will be used instead of the temp dbspaces and take advantage of the UNIX buffer cache for the sort-work files and merging them. For best results use at least three filesystems. Art S. Kagel
