Hi, First of all, i'm very new with using linux. :-) Now i have a UNIX with informix server 7.3 on it. I use ODBC to connect under windows, so that's no problem, and works fine. Now, i have a linux. And (you can guess) i want to connect to the UNIX. The idea is that i want to make a http server who's getting information with php from the database that runs on the unix.. Is there a howto or something else so i can fix it? I've tryed several things, downloaded clientsdk from intraware, tryed to install it, but at a point i need a file clientsdk.tar what i can't find?!? etc.... So please help me.. Best regards, Tom Franssen (from Holland)
Hi Tom. First of all, Linux is the unix (what you can to do in unix - you can to do in Linux so.). Have you found 'same_name.rpm' file on client sdk distribution? If this so, you must to run ' rpm -ivh same_name.rpm '. This will install client sdk files on your Linux box. ( RPM is package manager for Linux. ) As I know, only client sdk needed for php to connect to IDS. Good luck. Sergey. P.S All client sdk files will placed in /opt/informix. If you need to relocate it use 'rpm -ivh --relocate /opt/informix=/you_path same_name.rpm'. Make sure you check out the PHP manual on the PHP web site. The
following page should be of interest to you.
http://www.php.net/manual/ref.ifx.php
I had a few problems getting PHP to talk to Informix until I bothered to
actually read that page.
Here is a summary of the steps I ended up doing.
What I did to get Informix working in PHP
=========================================
Downloaded the latest php sources. I put them in a subdirectory under my
home
directory.
I also downloaded the informix csdk and installed in /opt/informix_csdk.
Ran phpinfo() on the old version and copied the configuration command
that
had been used.
Added '--with-informix' to the end of the command.
Set the INFORMIXDIR to point to /opt/informix_csdk, and added
$INFORMIX/bin
to the path.
Ran the configure command in the php source directory and rebuilt.
Modified /etc/ld.so.conf and added /opt/informix_csdk/lib and
/opt/informix_csdk/lib/esql.
Ran the ldconfig command.
Modified the httpd startup script (/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd) and added the
following lines:
export INFORMIXDIR=/opt/informix_csdk
export INFORMIXSERVER=NameOfDBServer
export PATH=$PATH:$INFORMIXDIR/bin
Hope this helps
