If you have Informix Sql Server as back-end I would recommend you to consider NewEra as an programming system because, positive : - all data types in NewEra are the same as Informix server operate - it's very easy to interact with Informix database putting SQL statements in Newera 4GL directly - it's possible to depelop event-driven applications using NewEra Libraries of classes, to develop your own system of classes and etc... - the possibility to split apps into client and server parts - you NEED NOT use ODBC (Informix Net only) to communicate with Informix data negaive : - some bugs in 1.*, 2.* versions - inconvenient developer's environment (especially project, bugs tracing, code editor in wind Painter etc.), as to be compared with Delphi or even Visual Fox, these things are pretty bad. Resume : NewEra is good to communicate with Informix data (the main thing! ) but its some features must be improved and I expect it in the next versions... Considering other products I would take PowerBuilder..... Sincerely, Andrei Shirobokov, joint-stock bank "Inkombank", Russia
