INFORMIX, SUN AND CREATIVE HEALTH CARE SYSTEMS CREATE COMMUNICATION SOLUTION FOR RURAL HEALTH NETWORK MENLO PARK, Calif., Feb. 23, 1998-- Informix=AE Corporation (NASDAQ: IFMX), Sun Microsystems(TM) Inc. and Creative HEALTH CARE Systems (CHS) today announced that Community Memorial HEALTH CARE of Marysville, Kan., has selected CHS to implement a new Internet/intranet solution that will electronically connect all Marysville's HEALTH CARE providers. The CHS solution, based on Informix Dynamic Server=AE and Sun's Java(TM) technology, will provide on-line patient records management and patient accounting, among other internal functions. "We were looking to replace all our existing information technology in the hospital, long term care clinic and our rural health clinics with a Year 2000 compliant solution that would encompass all our patient information and organizational needs." said Harley B. Appel, Community Memorial HEALTH CARE president and CEO. "After strict evaluation, only CHS could deliver today the technology that the others were talking about." According to Steve Everest, president of Creative Health Systems, Inc., a long-time HEALTH CARE partner of Informix and Sun, "Marysville, the Marshall county seat with a population of 12,720, is implementing a comprehensive paperless patient information network that many larger HEALTH CARE organizations are only thinking about at this time."=20 By June of 1999, Marysville, once the first overnight stop for the Pony Express, will connect its hospital, six clinics, a long-term care facility and home health unit with Sun systems and Java technology, Informix's database management system, and a 10/100BASE-T Ethernet network. =20 In addition to CHS's MedGenix Health Information Network, Community Memorial will be implementing Laboratory, Pharmacy and Radiology packages from Creative Computer Applications (CCA). "We have based our MedGenix implementations on Informix Dynamic Server because its performance and scalability has proved to be the best platform to maximize the benefits of our applications," said Everest. "Informix's strategy of supporting its partner's solutions rather than competing with them has created a true `best-of-breed' technology with CHS." Sun's Java network computing technology is increasingly seen as the foundation of cost-effective integrated HEALTH CARE networks. Secure, heterogeneous network communications are essential to the exchange of sensitive medical information, and the conducting of electronic commerce transactions for claims, billing and authorizations. "The Java platform helps to ensure that critical medical information can be brought together with practitioners and patients securely over a variety of system environments, so that the best possible decisions can be made, leading to the best possible outcomes," said Bruce Elder, HEALTH CARE industry manager at Sun. "The CHS solution should prove to be a terrific example of how information technology can help to improve the quality of and access to HEALTH CARE delivery." For the communication network, Community Memorial HEALTH CARE has licensed 70 seats of Informix Dynamic Server, Sun Enterprise(TM) 3000 Server with 4 CPUs, Sun JavaStation(TM) thin clients and the following MedGenix applications: General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Time and Attendance, Personnel/Education, Patient Management, Patient Accounting, Accounts Receivable, A/R Collections, Medical Records Abstracting, Laser Generated Forms, Clinic Management, Long Term Care, Electronic Claims, State Reporting, Home Health Billing, Collection Agency Electronic Transfer, Materials Management, Order Entry, Patient Care Documentation, Physician Remote Link.
