(Different programmers, different preferences.) BOTH methods worked! I haven't worked with MODE ANSI databases in Informix, but my guess is that Joe's problem is not the method of putting quotes in the string. This is so obvious that I hesitate to ask, but has the user running the task been GRANTed SELECT on the table?
