Make sure the file has informix as owner and group and access permissions 660. Make sure group informix can access the file by setting the directory permissions on the path leading to the rootdbs file correctly. Specify the file name in the ONCONFIG file, and decide how big you want it to be. Run OnMonitor and the Parameters/Initialize menu to verify that it works and is picking up the correct ONCONFIG file. RTM to see why you should be using a raw device instead of a cooked file.
