Hi, I was reading computerworld today. It writes top oracle professionals get $150K a year (full-time) and $120-200 hourly (contract). Wonder what are the current rates for the informix gangs?? Do you know how big the informix market "really" is... for both worldwide and us-only... ??? /s Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
I have no answer, but wish to elaborate the question. o Aside from what the current rates are, what will the market bear? I've increased my rate 30% - 40% a year for the past four years. I've not had a problem getting a contract. And when I suggest the higher rate and there is nary a hesitation, I can't but wonder if the market could bear more. A few observations. I have a friend who is an Oracle DBA, and quite a good one. He shared with me what he was getting. When my current contract expired, I asked for the same rate my friend was getting. I shared with him that was now getting whatever. He asked how I did it, I explained that I asked. Since that time, less than a year, he intends on asking for almost double next time he considers a contract. What a client will pay, how much you think your worth, and how much you actually get may not be easy to address. So, in the interest of all, I'd be interested in hearing your point of view on: o what will the market bear in terms of hourly rates, for good DBAs? o what is the market like these day for Informix DBAs? (If we based our conclusions on the ads the New York Times, we'd be wondering if there is much of a market at all). I am currently recovering from shoulder surgery, am on pain medication, and have not worked for several days. This is my only excuse for this post. shaumai@my-deja.com wrote: > Hi, > > I was reading computerworld today.
